Mexico has approved steep import tariff hikes of up to 50% on Indian goods from January 1, 2026, impacting nearly 75% of exports worth about $5–6 billion. Affected sectors include automobiles, auto parts, metals, electronics, textiles and chemicals. India has warned of “appropriate measures” while engaging Mexico diplomatically and pushing for a future free trade agreement to protect exporters’ interests.
