Union Minister Piyush Goyal has highlighted that technology and innovation will be central to India’s expanding partnership with Israel, praising how the nation has consistently turned challenges into opportunities through its strong startup ecosystem.
During his visit to the Peres Center for Peace and Innovation, Goyal said he was struck by Israel’s ability to build world-class innovations despite its size. With nearly one startup per 1,000 citizens, he called Israel’s innovation density “remarkable” and a model worth learning from.
He noted that Israel’s advancements in defence tech, agriculture, healthcare, and climate innovation align closely with India’s priorities. According to Goyal, India is exploring deeper collaboration to bring high-quality, cost-effective innovation into the Indian market.
The minister added that lessons from Israel’s innovation model could accelerate India’s growth in sectors that depend on research and technological depth.
Earlier, India and Israel initiated steps toward a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) after signing the Terms of Reference with Israel’s Minister of Economy and Industry, Nir Barkat. Goyal said the FTA would be a crucial move toward a balanced and mutually beneficial trade, economic, and strategic partnership.
