Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Safran Aircraft Engine Services India’s (SAESI) Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility in Hyderabad, the first global engine OEM to set up such operations in India. This ₹1,300 crore investment is Safran’s largest in the country and establishes India as a global hub for CFM LEAP engine servicing, powering Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.
The facility, spread across 45,000 square meters inside the GMR Aerospace and Industrial Park SEZ near Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, is designed to service up to 300 LEAP engines annually. It will start operations in 2026 and aims to reach full capacity by 2035, employing over 1,000 highly skilled Indian technicians and engineers.
This MRO center strengthens Hyderabad’s position as a leading aerospace and defense hub, fostering opportunities for local MSMEs and precision engineering firms. The launch aligns with India’s “Make in India” and Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiatives by reducing foreign exchange outflow from overseas engine servicing and boosting the domestic aerospace supply chain.
Besides the Hyderabad facility, Safran is expanding its footprint with additional engineering and manufacturing units in Bengaluru focusing on both civil and military aerospace sectors. The new center underpins India’s fast-growing civil aviation market, supporting over 1,500 aircraft orders and propelling India as a critical node in the global aerospace MRO ecosystem. This initiative marks a significant step toward self-reliance in aviation services and high-value job creation in India’s aerospace industry.
