German Doner Kebab (GDK), the UK-based fast-casual chain, plans to launch its first Indian outlet in early 2026 through a master franchise deal with Middle East-based GBC India. GBC commits to opening 450 restaurants over 15 years, focusing on major metros, tier-1 cities, and high growth urban areas.
CEO Simon Wallis calls India a “ripe” market, driven by its thriving economy, expanding middle class, and rising protein demand. GDK will adapt its menu by skipping beef for lamb options, mirroring strategies from McDonald’s and Burger King to suit local tastes.
Globally, GDK eyes $1.32 billion (£1 billion) in sales within five years, scaling from over 170 outlets to nearly 900 across the UK, Europe, North America, and the Middle East, backed by private equity firm True. Sales are projected to climb from £161 million in 2024 to over £183 million this year. Amid slowdowns at KFC and Pizza Hut, Wallis sees room for disruptive brands like GDK.
