Instagram is broadening its AI-powered tools in India with the launch of voice translation, dubbing, and lip-syncing for Reels in five new Indian languages — Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Marathi. The move, part of Meta’s growing focus on India, aims to help creators reach wider audiences across linguistic boundaries. The platform already supports Hindi, English, Spanish, and Portuguese, bringing the total language count to nine.
The translation tool uses Meta’s generative AI to convert spoken audio into another language while keeping the creator’s original tone and vocal quality. An optional lip-sync feature adjusts mouth movements to match the translated speech, adding a natural and authentic viewing experience. All AI-translated Reels will be clearly marked with the “Translated with Meta AI” label, and users can choose to view the original version through the settings menu.
Alongside translation, Instagram is introducing support for Indian scripts, including Devanagari and Bengali-Assamese, in its Edits video editing tool. This allows creators to add text and captions in local scripts such as Hindi, Bengali, Assamese, and Marathi, with Android rollout expected soon.
The announcements were made at Meta’s “House of Instagram” event in Mumbai, underscoring the platform’s continued investments in India’s creator ecosystem. The company has been steadily enhancing its creative suite with AI-driven tools for photo and video restyling, sound effects, and caption editing. Together, these updates highlight Instagram’s push to empower regional creators and strengthen its foothold in one of its largest and fastest-growing user markets.
