The US Department of Energy and AMD have launched a $1 billion partnership to build two AI supercomputers Lux and Discovery at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Arriving in 2026, Lux is co-developed with HPE and Oracle using AMD Instinct MI355X GPUs and EPYC CPUs. Discovery will use EPYC ‘Venice’ CPUs and MI430X GPUs to drive breakthroughs in energy, medicine, and materials science.
