Opera has expanded its partnership with Google to integrate the latest Gemini AI models into its Opera One, Opera GX, and Opera Neon browsers, providing over 80 million users free access to advanced AI features. The integration introduces an AI-powered side panel that leverages browsing context to offer summaries, research assistance, and multi-format file analysis including images and videos.
The AI engine has been rebuilt with an agentic architecture, delivering 20% faster response times compared to the previous system. This upgrade supports voice input and output, enhancing user interaction. Opera reports a 17% annual increase in query revenue, driven by the monetization of AI-driven user actions beyond traditional search.
Privacy remains a key focus, with Opera’s browsers offering robust controls that allow users to manage what data the AI accesses, ensuring user information is protected. According to Opera EVP Per Wetterdal, the browser is becoming the natural entry point for AI experiences on the web, made possible through this collaboration with Google.
This development places Opera at the forefront of the competitive AI browser landscape, where companies like Microsoft and OpenAI are also advancing integration. Google’s Managing Director Nordics, Per Gustafsson, highlighted that the partnership sets a new standard for AI-powered browsing experiences on a global scale.
