Andhra Pradesh’s government has kicked off a pilot for Digi Rythu Bazaar in Visakhapatnam, bridging farmers and urban buyers through a digital platform that delivers fresh produce at Rythu Bazaar prices. Launched at the MVP Colony Rythu Bazaar, the initiative lets consumers order vegetables and fruits via a website for doorstep delivery within a 5-km radius, with cash-on-delivery as the initial payment option.
The platform sources directly from farmers, bypassing middlemen to ensure affordability amid rising grocery app costs. Plans include a mobile app and integrated digital payments to boost accessibility. Customers browse available stock online, and orders are fulfilled same-day from the bazaar.
This move modernizes traditional Rythu Bazaars, aiming to empower farmers with steady markets while offering city dwellers sustainable alternatives to private platforms like Swiggy Instamart. If successful, officials plan to expand across Visakhapatnam and statewide. Digi Rythu reflects India’s push toward agri-tech, potentially reshaping urban food supply chains by prioritizing regulated pricing and direct sourcing. Early feedback highlights its promise for narrowing rural-urban gaps.
