Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd is set to build India’s largest ingot and wafer manufacturing plant in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, with an investment of Rs 6,675 crore. The 10 GW greenfield facility, cleared by the State Investment Promotion Board chaired by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, is positioned as a key pillar in India’s bid to localise solar manufacturing and cut import reliance for critical components.
Located at the IFFCO Kisan Special Economic Zone, the project will initially use 120 acres, with another 80 acres reserved for future expansion. Ingots and wafers produced at the plant will feed downstream solar cell and module lines, tying into Tata Power’s broader renewable manufacturing footprint across the country. The facility will be powered by a dedicated 200 MW captive green power plant, underscoring the company’s push to anchor manufacturing on clean energy.
State officials say Andhra Pradesh beat rival locations by offering ready industrial land, strong port connectivity via Krishnapatnam, and assured access to green power. IT and Electronics Minister Nara Lokesh called the project “a strong vote of confidence” in the state’s policy stability and infrastructure readiness. The plant is expected to create about 1,000 direct jobs and catalyse ancillary investment in the region.
Nellore is emerging as a solar manufacturing cluster, with Premier Energies and ReNew Photovoltaics also announcing multi‑thousand‑crore cell, ingot, and wafer projects in the state. Cabinet approval for the Tata Power project is expected shortly, paving the way for construction to begin.
